Outdoor gyms unveiled in two Burntwood parks

Work is now complete on outdoor gyms at Redwood Park and Chase Terrace Park in Burntwood.

Earlier this month Lichfield District Council announced it was installing new exercise stations at two parks in Burntwood.

Now the work is finished, the outdoor gym at Redwood Park features magnetic bells, a cross trainer and a bench. While Chase Terrace Park boasts an outdoor gym with magnetic bells, a sports bike and a bench.

Councillor Richard Cox, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks & Waste, said: “I’m pleased to welcome the completion of our two new exercise stations in Burntwood. I am sure they will prove to be a real asset to Redwood Park and Chase Terrace Park.

“I would like to thank the sports development and parks teams at the council and my predecessor, Councillor Liz Little, for all their work in delivering this project.

“I know many of our park goers will look forward to using the equipment to improve their health and fitness once social distancing guidelines allow.”

Although complete, the fencing around both exercise stations will remain in place until social distancing measures have been eased and the council can open the facilities to the public.

Once open, the council’s sports development team will hold activity sessions to show the local community how the equipment works and how to get the best use out of it.

Each gym cost £17,000 – an investment of £34,000 in total. The project was funded by Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government funding as well as section 106 monies, which is funding secured from developers by the council for investment in local infrastructure.
