Information officer spreads #LoveLocal safely message

Lichfield District Council’s new information officer is busy visiting local businesses to make sure their premises are covid-secure.

As part of the Reopening High Streets Safely project, which is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the council has employed a part time information officer.

Tasmin Turner, who works for the council as a Sports Development Officer, has been seconded into the position temporarily while the local authority recruits to the six-month role.

Tasmin has already started visiting shops in Burntwood town and Lichfield city centres to offer support and advice where needed, to make sure local businesses are able to operate in a safe environment for both their staff and customers.

Tasmin Turner, Information Officer, said: “I am really enjoying meeting retailers across the district. They’ve all been positive about getting customers back into their stores safely and are eager to play their part.

“I’m looking forward to meeting more business owners, and also helping our hospitality industry to get back up and running while being covid-secure.”

As part of the role, Tasmin will be distributing #LoveLocal resource packs to retailers and hospitality venues.

This is the council’s campaign that encourages people to support their local high streets while remembering safety advice, such as keeping at a safe distance, washing hands regularly, and staying home if you have Covid-19 symptoms.

The packs include posters, window vinyls, floor stickers for queuing outside, as well as digital resources, such as social media templates.

Councillor Liz Little, Cabinet Member for Major Projects & Economic Development, said: “I’m really grateful to Tasmin for taking on this temporary role while we recruit to the six-month position.

“It means we can support even more businesses and make sure they have what they need to get back up and running safely.

“This is such a challenging time, and I’d like to thank all our retailers for adapting to the changes so far and working with us to make sure the district works towards being covid-secure.”
